چکیده

Wilson and Cannan studied the interconversion of glutamic acid and pyrrolidonecarboxylic acid in detail by means of changes in amino nitrogen (l), and the system so characterized was utilized by Olcott for the development of a method for the determination of glutamic acid (2). In neither case, however, were temperatures above 125” studied. We have found that glutamic acid can be converted much more rapidly at. 142”. Since such temperatures are known to produce profound changes in many substances, an investigation of the optical rotation of this system was undertaken.

A Method for the Determination of Glutamic Acid in Proteins

This method is based on the fact that glutamic acid can be converted to pyrrolidonecarboxylic acid under conditions which do not affect other amino acids, except cystine and cysteine. The corresponding decrease in amino nitrogen, corrected for cystine, can be used to estimate the amount of glutamic acid in protein hydrolysates. By the use of the Van Slyke manometric apparatus, the method is app...

The Partition of Urinary Nitrogen after the Oral Administration of Glutamic Acid, Pyrrolidonecarboxylic Acid, Proline, and Hydroxyproline to Rabbits

Studies of the metabolism in vivo of proline and hydroxyproline and of the related pyrrolidonecarboxylic acid are not numerous. Many earlier redearches in which attempts were made to demonstrate relationships between these compounds and glutamic acid and ornithine are not convincing because of the fact that the rat growth procedure used at that time has now been shown to be inadequate. More rec...

Comparison Studies on Complexation of Molybdenum(VI) with Aspartic Acid And Glutamic Acid in Different Dielectric Constants1

Equilibria of the reaction of molybdenum(VI) with L-aspartic acid (Asp) and L- Glutamic acid(Glu) have been studied by spectrophotometric measurements in mixed solvent systems at an ionicstrength of 0.2 mol/dm3 sodium perchlorate, employed (15, 20, 25, 30± 0.1°C) at pH ranges of 3.2to 5.5 with a high ratio of ligand to metal. The stability constants of the complexes and theresulting free energy...

Significant Changes in the Activity of L-Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase of Mouse Hypothalamus After Peripheral Injection of Cholecystokinin-8 and Caerulein

The activity of one of the metabolizing enzymes of - aminobutyric acid, (GABA), was determined in mouse hypothalamus after peripheral injections of cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8) and caerulein (CLN). The activity of this rate-limiting enzyme, L-glutamic acid decarboxylase, (GAD), did not change thirty minutes after peripheral injections of either CCK-8 or CLN in doses of 50g/kg body weight. Howeve...

Untersuchungen zur Synthese und biologischen Bedeutung von Glutaminsäure-l-semialdehyd als Vorstufe der Chlorophylle

Glutamic Semialdehyde, Synthesis, Reactivity, Glutamic Acid, Derivatives Glutamic-1-semialdehyde which is discussed to be involved in the early steps of chlorophyll biosynthesis, has been synthesized from glutamic acid by reduction of several N-protected carboxylic acid derivatives like the N-CBO-glutamic acid-1-dimethyl amide or methylanilide, the pyroglutamic acid imidazolide and the acid chl...
